The Mansion is one of the remnants of "Millionaires Row," an impressive block of grand homes, built and owned by some of Hannibal's wealthiest and most influential citizens. Built in 1858-1864, it became the townhouse of John & Helen Garth, childhood chums of young Sam Clemens who remained lifelong friends of the writer. The Italianate architecture is reminiscent of an Italian country villa with the cupola on top providing a view of the Mississippi River. The house is on the National Historic Register.

Several of the original wood mantles with marble insets remain in the home. Beautiful windows throughout the home, original stain glass and leaded glass still remain today. Large pocket doors in the Parlor and Library as well as built in bookcases filled with books. This home is filled with history, being built during the civil war. Owned by some prominent citizens of Hannibal such as Stillwell's and Garth's.
There is so much history to enjoy in this house. Mark Twain attended a dinner party hosted by Helen Garth, home was part of
The Underground Railroad during the Civil War, and Kurt and Brenda Warner stayed here when operated as  The Fifth Street Mansion in 2001.
We are a Family Friendly Bed and Breakfast, please remember that our home is not baby or toddler proof so we ask that you do keep a close eye on your little one.
Hannibal has a collegiate baseball team coming to town Spring 2009. We are just  a couple blocks to the fields. Spring 2009 also brings the opening of the new cinema downtown just 3 blocks from our front door.
